The carnival festivities are a tradition celebrated every year throughout the country, with parades, floats full of flowers, fruit and beautiful women, games, banquets, dances and entertainment in general, with food and drink in abundance.
The celebration of Carnival has its origin in pagan festivals, such as those held in honor of Bacchus, the God of wine, the Roman Saturnalia and Lupercalia, or those held in honor of the ox Apis in Egypt.
In Baños de Agua Santa the biggest party is Carnival Sunday. Its origin stems from a legend when one day the Virgin raised her hand and stopped the fury of the volcano.
