Meet at Turismo Ecuador 24
Meet our team at the Turismo Ecuador 24 office for registration, liability waiver signing, and a complete safety briefing.
Departure from Baños de Agua Santa
Travel by private tourist transportation to the community of Pondoa, approximately 30 minutes from downtown Baños.
Enjoy beautiful Andean scenery along the way.
Start of the Trek
Begin hiking toward the Tungurahua Volcano Refuge, following traditional mountain trails through:
- Cloud forest
- High-altitude páramo
- Volcanic landscapes
- Scenic viewpoints
Along the hike you may observe:
- Native Andean birds
- Wild orchids
- Mountain flora
- Spectacular landscapes within Sangay National Park
Your guide will explain the volcano's history, geology, wildlife, and the surrounding ecosystem.
Arrival at Tungurahua Refuge (3,800 m)
Reach the historic Tungurahua Refuge, located at 3,800 meters (12,467 ft) above sea level.
Enjoy time to:
- Rest.
- Take photographs.
- Enjoy a snack or box lunch.
- Admire breathtaking panoramic views.
On clear days you may see:
- Baños Valley.
- Chimborazo Volcano.
- Ecuador's Central Andes.
- The impressive Tungurahua crater, which has remained inactive since 2016.
Descent
Begin the hike back toward Pondoa along the same trail.
If weather and group conditions allow, your guide may choose an alternative route through the high Andean forest.
Return to Baños
