DAY 1 – QUITO – SIGCHOS
Departure from Quito
Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Quito. We will travel south along the Avenue of the Volcanoes, passing spectacular Andean landscapes, fertile valleys, and picturesque villages.
During the journey, your private guide will introduce you to the history, geography, and indigenous culture of the Ecuadorian Highlands.
Toachi Canyon Viewpoint
Our first stop will be the impressive Toachi Canyon Viewpoint, where you'll enjoy panoramic views of one of Ecuador's deepest canyons. This dramatic landscape, carved by the Toachi River over thousands of years, offers incredible opportunities for photography and birdwatching.
Arrival in Sigchos
After arriving in the charming mountain town of Sigchos, you'll check into your accommodation and have time to relax before beginning an acclimatization hike.
Acclimatization Hike
In the afternoon, we will enjoy a gentle hike through the surrounding countryside. This short trek allows your body to gradually adapt to the altitude while discovering local farms, grazing fields, native vegetation, and beautiful mountain scenery.
Your guide will introduce you to the local flora, traditional agriculture, and daily life of the indigenous communities living in the region.

DAY 2 – SIGCHOS – ISINLIVÍ
Breakfast
After breakfast, we begin one of the most scenic sections of the Quilotoa Loop.
Today's trail descends through rolling hills before crossing rivers and climbing into the beautiful Andean village of Isinliví.
Throughout the hike you will enjoy:
- Spectacular Andean valleys
- Ancient dirt trails
- Native forests
- Traditional farms
- Indigenous communities
- Small waterfalls
- Suspension bridges
- Panoramic mountain viewpoints
Your guide will explain the traditions of the local indigenous families, their agricultural practices, and the importance of this region within the Ecuadorian Andes.
After arriving in Isinliví, you'll have free time to relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this beautiful mountain village.

DAY 3 – ISINLIVÍ – CHUGCHILÁN
Breakfast
Today's hike is considered one of the most beautiful stages of the Quilotoa Loop.
We descend into the spectacular Toachi River Canyon, crossing suspension bridges, rivers, eucalyptus forests, and traditional farming communities.
The route offers incredible panoramic views of steep cliffs, cultivated terraces, grazing llamas, sheep, and native wildlife.
Along the trail, you'll pass through small Andean villages where local families continue preserving centuries-old traditions and lifestyles.
Our guide will share fascinating stories about the history of the canyon, local legends, geology, and indigenous culture.
After several hours of hiking, we arrive at the peaceful village of Chugchilán, surrounded by magnificent mountain scenery.
The remainder of the afternoon is free to rest and prepare for the following day's adventure.

DAY 4 – CHUGCHILÁN – QUILOTOA CRATER
Breakfast
Today is the highlight of the Quilotoa Loop.
The trail gradually ascends through breathtaking Andean landscapes toward one of South America's most spectacular volcanic lakes.
Along the way you'll enjoy:
- Native páramo ecosystems
- Panoramic mountain landscapes
- Indigenous villages
- Agricultural terraces
- High-altitude grasslands
- Spectacular views of the Andes
After several hours of hiking, we finally arrive at the edge of the magnificent Quilotoa Crater, an ancient volcanic caldera filled with stunning emerald-green water.
From the main viewpoint you'll enjoy unforgettable panoramic views before walking along part of the crater rim.
Optional Activity
Those who wish may descend to the shores of the crater lake. The hike down takes approximately 30–40 minutes, while the return climb takes about one hour.
For travelers who prefer not to hike back uphill, mule rental is available (not included).
Enjoy free time for photography and relaxation while admiring one of Ecuador's natural wonders.

DAY 5 – COMPLETE QUILOTOA CRATER RIM HIKE – QUITO

Our final hiking day begins with a complete trek around the rim of the Quilotoa Crater.
This circular trail offers constantly changing panoramic views of the turquoise volcanic lake from multiple viewpoints, making it one of Ecuador's most rewarding hikes.
During the circuit you'll encounter:
- High Andean ecosystems
- Spectacular volcanic landscapes
- Traditional shepherd trails
- Native birds
- Panoramic viewpoints
- Excellent photography opportunities
Your guide will explain the geological formation of Quilotoa Volcano, local indigenous legends, and the unique biodiversity found in this high-altitude environment.
After completing the crater rim hike, we will enjoy lunch before beginning our comfortable private drive back to Quito.
Arrival in Quito is expected during the late afternoon, marking the end of an unforgettable hiking adventure through the Ecuadorian Andes.
