How to Get from Quito to Lago Agrio
If you are staying in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, there are two convenient options to reach the starting point of your Amazon tour in Lago Agrio.
Option 1: Public Bus
You can purchase your bus ticket at one of Quito's main bus terminals and travel overnight to Lago Agrio. The journey takes approximately 8 hours.
Upon arrival in Lago Agrio, you will need to take a taxi to the meeting point, whose exact location will be provided before your trip.
Important: Please contact the management team at Turismo Ecuador 24 before your departure to receive the exact meeting point location and any additional arrival instructions.
Option 2: Lodge Tourist Bus (Recommended)
For greater comfort, we also offer an exclusive tourist bus service for our guests. The bus departs from Quito at approximately 22:00pm and travels directly to the meeting point in Lago Agrio.

DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1
08:00 – 08:30 Meet at Hotel Magic Paradise in Lago Agrio, where we will board private transportation for an approximately two-hour drive to the entrance of the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve.
11:00 Upon arrival, your naturalist guide will provide an informative briefing at the Ministry of Environment Interpretation Center. Afterward, we will complete the registration process at the Ministry of Environment offices.
Once registration is complete, we will board a motorized canoe to begin our journey along the Cuyabeno River. During the navigation, you will have excellent opportunities to observe the incredible biodiversity of the Amazon, including monkeys, tropical birds, and reptiles such as the green anaconda, considered the second-largest snake in the world. Wildlife sightings depend on weather conditions and a bit of luck.
13:30 Lunch at Piranha Ecolodge.
After lunch, your guide will introduce the lodge facilities, provide general information about your stay, assign your rooms, and allow time to relax.
16:45 Departure for our afternoon excursion. We will navigate upstream to the confluence of the Cuyabeno River and La Hormiga River, one of the best places to observe the magnificent Amazon pink river dolphins, one of the reserve's most iconic and protected species.
We will then continue to Laguna Grande, where you can enjoy one of Ecuador's most spectacular sunsets and take a refreshing swim in the lagoon.
18:30 Prepare for an exciting night excursion in search of black caimans and tree boas while navigating the Cuyabeno River back to the ecolodge.
20:00 Dinner prepared by our chef, followed by a welcome cocktail. Spend the evening relaxing in a hammock or enjoying a drink at the lodge's bar.
Day 2
07:00 Early in the morning, we will visit the observation tower for an excellent birdwatching experience. With a little luck, you may also spot monkeys, sloths, macaws, and other mammals around the ecolodge.
08:00 Breakfast.
09:30 Begin today's guided rainforest hike.
As part of our commitment to supporting local communities, a young member of the local community will accompany us throughout the hike, enriching the experience while directly contributing to sustainable community development.
This unique activity allows you not only to explore the rainforest but also to experience the Amazon through the knowledge and traditions of its local people.
11:00 After the hike, enjoy a kayaking excursion on the lagoon, where you can swim and relax surrounded by pristine rainforest. With a little luck, you may spot Amazon pink river dolphins or giant river otters on the way back to the lodge.
13:30 Lunch followed by time to relax.
16:30 Visit the Interpretation Center, where a member of the local community will share information about local conservation initiatives and the partnership with the lodge. Afterwards, participate in a traditional artisanal chocolate-making workshop, learning the ancestral process of transforming Amazon cacao into delicious handmade chocolate.
19:00 Night walk along a rainforest trail near the ecolodge. Your naturalist guide will explain the fascinating nocturnal behavior of insects, amphibians, mammals, and reptiles that become active after sunset.
20:00 Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3
08:00 Breakfast.
09:00 Navigate downstream to the Siona Community of Puerto Bolívar. Along the way, enjoy excellent opportunities to observe monkeys, tropical birds, reptiles, and other Amazon wildlife while taking in the breathtaking rainforest scenery.
10:00 Visit the majestic Ceibo Tree, one of the largest and most symbolic trees of the Ecuadorian Amazon. Leave the canoe to walk around this rainforest giant, take photographs, and learn about its ecological, spiritual, and cultural significance.
11:00 Arrival at the Maloka House in the Siona Community. A Siona woman will warmly welcome you and introduce you to her people's traditions and ancestral culture. Visit a cassava plantation and participate in the preparation of casabe, the traditional Amazonian cassava bread.
12:00 Traditional Amazonian lunch with the Siona community.
17:30 Navigate to Caimán Cocha Lagoon, a peaceful lagoon offering a unique setting to relax, enjoy the tranquility of the rainforest, and admire another unforgettable Amazon sunset.
20:00 Dinner and farewell cocktail at the lodge.
Day 4
08:00 Breakfast.
09:30 Begin a full-day adventure from Piranha Ecolodge aboard paddle canoes to Canangüeno Lagoon, one of the most protected lagoons within the reserve. This pristine ecosystem is an important sanctuary for large black caimans, giant river otters, and numerous bird species. The canoe expedition lasts approximately 3 hours.
13:00 Enjoy a boxed lunch in the heart of the rainforest. Relax in hammocks before continuing with an additional guided forest hike, where you'll discover more of the Amazon's extraordinary flora and fauna.
Later, paddle back to the ecolodge while keeping an eye out for additional wildlife, depending on weather conditions and the time of day.
17:00 Sunset at the lagoon.
18:30 Night walk around the ecolodge to learn about the fascinating insects and amphibians that inhabit the rainforest.
20:00 Dinner and farewell cocktail.
Day 5
05:30 Wake up early for a sunrise canoe excursion to Laguna Grande, one of the most beautiful places in the reserve to experience the Amazon at dawn.
After sunrise, continue searching for Amazon pink river dolphins and other wildlife that is most active during the early morning hours.
08:00 Breakfast at the lodge and preparation for the return journey.
09:30 Motorized canoe ride back to Cuyabeno Bridge, with additional opportunities to observe wildlife along the river.
11:30 Arrival at Cuyabeno Bridge, where private transportation will be waiting to take you back to Hotel Magic Paradise in Lago Agrio.
14:00 Lunch at Hotel Magic Paradise in Lago Agrio.
