During the journey, you'll pass beautiful Andean landscapes, agricultural fields, and traditional villages while learning about Ecuador's geology, history, and culture.

Arrival at Cotopaxi National Park

Upon arrival, we'll stop at the Mariscal Sucre Interpretation Center, where you'll learn about the park's unique ecosystems, wildlife, volcanic history, and conservation efforts.

We then continue to the beautiful Tambopaxi area, one of the best locations for panoramic views of Cotopaxi Volcano.

After a safety briefing and basic riding instructions, you'll begin an unforgettable horseback riding adventure through the Andean páramo.

No previous riding experience is required.

During approximately two hours, you'll ride along scenic trails surrounded by grasslands, streams, and breathtaking mountain scenery beneath the majestic Cotopaxi Volcano.

Along the ride you may observe:

  • Cotopaxi Volcano.
  • Wild horses.
  • Llamas.
  • White-tailed deer (occasionally).
  • Andean condors and native birds.
  • Native high-altitude vegetation.

Limpiopungo Lagoon

Before returning to Quito, we'll visit Limpiopungo Lagoon, where you'll enjoy a short walk while observing Andean birds and capturing unforgettable photographs of Cotopaxi Volcano reflected in the lagoon.

What to Bring

To fully enjoy your experience in Cotopaxi National Park, we recommend bringing:

  • Passport or valid ID.
  • Comfortable outdoor clothing.
  • Waterproof jacket or windbreaker (weather conditions can change quickly).
  • Warm clothing (temperatures range between 32°F and 59°F / 0°C to 15°C).
  • Hiking boots or comfortable walking shoes with good traction.
  • Sun hat or cap.
  • Warm hat and gloves (especially during the morning).
  • Sunglasses.
  • Sunscreen.
  • Lip balm with SPF.
  • Reusable water bottle.
  • Snacks or energy bars.
  • Camera or smartphone with a fully charged battery.
  • Small backpack for personal belongings.
  • Personal medications if needed.
  • Cash for personal expenses, tips, or souvenirs.

Important: Due to the high altitude of Cotopaxi National Park (12,470–13,780 ft / 3,800–4,200 m above sea level), we recommend walking at a comfortable pace, staying well hydrated, and avoiding strenuous physical activity if you are not acclimatized to high elevations.
