DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 1 – APPROACH & ACCLIMATIZATION
Meet at Turismo Ecuador 24
Meet your certified mountain guide at the Turismo Ecuador 24 office for registration, liability waiver signing, and collection of your technical equipment (equipment must be collected one day before departure).
Your guide will provide a complete expedition briefing covering:
- Mountain equipment.
- Basic climbing techniques.
- High-altitude safety.
- Hydration and acclimatization.
- Expedition logistics.
Departure from Baños de Agua Santa
Travel by private transportation toward Carihuairazo Volcano, crossing beautiful Andean landscapes, traditional villages, and the spectacular high-altitude páramo ecosystem.
Along the way, you may spot llamas, alpacas, and wild vicuñas living within the Chimborazo Wildlife Reserve.
Arrival at the Approach Area
Arriving at approximately 4,300 meters (14,108 ft), begin a gentle hike toward base camp.
Depending on expedition logistics, mules or porters may assist with transporting part of the equipment.
Enjoy the peaceful Andean scenery while continuing the acclimatization process.
Equipment Check
Before resting, your guide will carefully inspect all equipment and review the summit route, terrain conditions, and safety procedures.
Enjoy an early dinner before getting some rest.
DAY 2 – SUMMIT DAY
Summit Ascent
Before dawn, begin the ascent toward the summit of Carihuairazo Volcano (5,018 m / 16,463 ft).
The route follows volcanic rock, alpine trails, and seasonal snowfields.
Although this climb is less technical than Chimborazo, it still requires good physical fitness and previous hiking experience at high altitude.
Your certified mountain guide will monitor the group's pace, safety, and acclimatization throughout the climb.
Reach the Summit
Upon reaching 5,018 meters, enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Ecuador's most famous volcanoes.
Weather permitting, you'll admire:
- Chimborazo Volcano
- El Altar Volcano
- Tungurahua Volcano
- The Ecuadorian Andes
- The Chimborazo Wildlife Reserve
Celebrate your achievement while capturing unforgettable photographs.
Descent
Descend safely following the same route back to base camp.
Enjoy a light breakfast and a short rest before packing your equipment.
Return
Hike back to the pickup point before returning by private transportation to Riobamba or Baños de Agua Santa, depending on your itinerary.
